Quote/s of the week

I felt it was appropriate to include both of these quotes in this Blog.  They both relate to having a positive attitude, and being confident in your own abilities.

"Wellness is the key to a long and healthy life. Many people have the wrong perception of it. Wellness is from the neck up, and fitness from the neck down. Too many people work out every day, but go around with the worst attitudes, which just wastes all their physical efforts."

"If you don’t have confidence, you’ll always find a way not to win."

Pics from AZ

Here are a few snapshots taken during our recent trip down to visit my parents in Arizona.  These were taken during our hike up to Vulture Peak; which is near Wickenburg, AZ.

Quote of the week

"To be a cyclist is to be a student of pain....at cycling's core lies pain, hard and bitter as the pit inside a juicy peach. It doesn't matter if you're sprinting for an Olympic medal, a town sign, a trailhead, or the rest stop with the homemade brownies. If you never confront pain, you're missing the essence of the sport. Without pain, there's no adversity. Without adversity, no challenge. Without challenge, no improvement. No improvement, no sense of accomplishment and no deep-down joy. Might as well be playing Tiddly-Winks."

TRX Lunge with Bosu and Medicine Ball

One of the coolest new pieces of exercise equipment that I've been using for training is the TRX Suspension Trainer.  If you haven't already seen it, I've put some videos on YouTube.  Here's one of the leg exercises that I do.    This video was taken while Jenny and I were down in Arizona visiting my folks.

2 Quotes of the week

In the absense of last week's "quote of the week", you get two quotes this week.  Think of it as my holiday gift to you.  Happy New Year all!

"Pain is a big fat creature riding on your back. The farther you pedal, the heavier he feels. The harder you push, the tighter he squeezes your chest. The steeper the climb, the deeper he digs his jagged, sharp claws into your muscles."

- Scott Martin

"What makes a great endurance athlete is the ability to absorb potenial embarrassment, and to suffer without complaint. I was discovering that if it was a matter of gritting my teeth, not caring how it looked, and outlasting everybody else, I won. It didn't seem to matter what sport it was--in a straight-ahead, long-distant race, I could beat anybody. If it was a suffer-fest, I was good at it."

- Lance Armstrong
